2023 Southeast Parkour Championship – Qualifier

The 2023 Southeast Parkour Championships is an annual series of parkour competitions held at parkour gyms or outdoor locations along the southeast states, culminating in the season finals competition at the end of the season.

Each competition hosts three different events – speed, skill, and style. Athletes compete in these events against others in their own age group, seeing who can earn the most League Points. These events are similar to our past events such as Speed Night and Challenge Night. Title regional athletes will have the opportunity to compete at the United States Parkour Association National Finals.

Enso Movement’s Regional Qualifier will be held Saturday, May 7th through Sunday, May 8th, 2023.

To register for the Enso Movement Regional Qualifier:

  1. Create an account at the Southeast Parkour Championship website
  2. Register for a 2023 Season Membership

Age Divisions

Athletes compete only with other athletes in their age groups. There are five age groups:

  • Youth: 7-9
  • Youth 10-12
  • Teen 13-17
  • Adult: 18+ Men
  • Adult 18+ Women

When you purchase your season membership you will select your age group. For birthdays that occur during this period that displaces your age bracket, you will be locked into the earliest age bracket of the season.

Competitions

Freestyle Competition

Each athlete shows off their best freerunning and parkour skills in a run up to forty-five (45) seconds long. Runs are judged upon:

  • Difficulty: How difficult are the skills performed?
  • Flow: How smoothly are skills strung together?
  • Style: How uniquely are skills demonstrated?
  • Execution: How well are skills executed?

Each run is scored by a panel of five judges. Each judge will give a score between 0 – 10 in 0.5 increments. The highest and lowest of the five scores will be removed and the three remaining scores will be added together to create an “Athletes Freestyle Score.”

Example: The 5 judges give out the scores: 7, 6.5, 6.5, 7.5, 6. The highest score [7.5] and lowest score [6] are removed and the middle scores [6.5, 6.5, 7] are added together to produce the “Athletes Freestyle Score” of 20.

Speed Competition

Race through multiple unique obstacle courses in the fastest time possible. Each course will follow one of three theme types: Hot Lava, Sprint, or Touch Points.

  • Hot Lava: Most, if not all, of this course must be completed without touching the ground. Touch the ground, and incur penalty time.
  • Sprint: This course is designed to allow the athlete to get up to full speed while overcoming low-level obstacles.
  • Touch Points: Multiple touch points are arranged all over this course. Athletes must touch all the points in any order they want and then return to the starting position.

Athletes will have 2 attempts on each course to secure their fastest times possible. The athlete’s fastest time on each course are added together to get their “Total Speed Time”. The Fastest Total Speed Time wins.

Example: If there are 3 Speed Courses and an Athletes times are: Course #1 [32.2sec and 30.1sec] Course # 2 [15.3sec and 12.1sec] and Course # 3 [20.6sec and 24.5sec] The slowest times for each course are removed and the fastest times [30.1, 12.1, and 20.6 seconds] are added together to get the Athletes Total Speed Time [62.8 seconds]

Skills Competition

Six parkour skill challenge areas are set up around the gym. Each skill challenge area has 5-point levels of difficulty, ranging from Level 1 (Lowest difficulty worth 1 point) to Level 5 (Highest difficulty worth 5 points). Athletes are awarded “Skill Points” for the highest level of difficulty skill they complete in each skill challenge area. The athlete with the highest skills points wins.

Skill Challenge Area: Each of the six Challenge Areas has a theme that its 5-Skill Challenges are based on, such as Vaulting, Laches, Half Turns, Balance, Strides, Precision, Dynos, etc.

Skill Challenges: 5-Skill Challenges (Level 1 – Level 5) can be found in each Challenge Area (For a total of 30 Skill Challenges). Each Skill Challenge in a Challenge Area will host challenges based on that Challenge Areas theme. Skill Challenges of a category must be performed in sequential order – athletes must complete Skill Challenge Level 4 in a Skill Challenge Area before they will be allowed to attempt Skill Challenge Level 5.

Example: If an athlete successfully completes Levels 1, 2, 3, and Level 4 in the Laches Challenge Area, the Athlete will receive 4 points in that Challenge Area.

Tie Breakers

Free Style Competition Tie Breaker: Big Trick

When two or more athletes in the same Age Group receive the same score in Freestyle, they will compete in “Big Trick” to determine the winner. Athletes will receive three attempts to show the judges their most impressive big trick. The same big trick can be performed all three times, or a different big trick can be attempted each time. The judges will vote on whose big trick is the most impressive and that athlete will win the tie breaker.

Speed Competition Tie Breaker : Sprint Race

When two or more athletes in the same age group receive the same Total Speed Time, those athletes will compete in a sprint / vaulting race. A sprint / vaulting race will have a short speed course that athletes must sprint down and back vaulting over identical vaults as quickly as possible. The first athlete to cross the finish line will win the tie breaker.

Skills Competition Tie Breaker: Balance-Off

When two or more athletes in the same Age Group receive the same amount of Skill Points, they will compete in a “Balance Off.” Athletes will stand on a balance rail of their choosing and must stay balanced as long as possible. If the balance battle extends past 15-seconds the judges will yell out challenges the athletes must complete (Switch feet, touch the rail with your hand, do a squat, etc.) The last athlete standing on the balance rail will win the tie breaker.
