Exercise – Straddle Frog Crawls
The Straddle Frog is a variation of the forward monkey or kong in which we keep our hips high and straddle our legs. We hop forward while keeping the legs split in the straddled shape. This is a great exercise for yogis or handbalancers seeking an active mobility exercise or to gain some strength in this position. Can you recognize its shape? Similar to a wide legged downward dog in yoga or the straddle press in handbalancing.
There’s a few variations we love with the Straddle Frog. Because of it’s nature, there’s a lot of possibilities to be challenged a bit further. Try one of the following:
- Add a straddle press anytime your hands and feet are close together with hips high
- Tripod with one arm; warm the up the wrists properly to minimize any risks for injuries
- Lean more forward for a stronger planche position. As you hop with your feet, take time to stay in the air by pressing the ground away and working those chest/shoulder muscles.
