Exercise – Front to Back Leg Swings
Front to Back Leg Swings are a foundational mobility movement as well as a warm-up drill in our tricking curriculum. It helps to condition the muscles for common movements in tricking and is used to prepare the body for kicking. This is a great way to have a dynamic warm-up for the hip.
Place one hand on a wall for balance and stand facing parallel to the wall. Keep your base leg flat on the floor for maximum flexibility benefits and begin swinging one leg up in the front and then use the momentum to swing it back behind you. The goal should be to keep your chest rather stiff while performing this movement so that your legs and hips have to do the stretching and you don’t compensate by bending over. Don’t forget to switch legs and do both sides!
After mastering the Front to Back Leg Swings, you can work towards one of the following:
- Do them without a wall to challenge your balance
- Work on your basic kicks on the ground
- Work toward swing hook or butterfly kick
