Exercise – Frog Walks
The Frog is a basic quadrupedal movement that’s great for handbalancers, yogis, or parkour practitioners. We see this shape across many bodyweight practices – a wide legged downward dog in yoga, the straddle press in handstands, or a kong progression in parkour. This crawl does require a bit of hip mobility and can be performed on a small incline if flexibility is a bit of a challenge.
It’s easy to jump right into using the Frog in many warm-ups. There is some impact on the wrists that can be minimized by taking smaller hops and spending more time in the press-position. You can prep by performing air squats and trying to reach for the ground. If you’re looking to take it to the next level, try one of the following:
- A tripod variation by using on arm
- Lean more forward and keep the hips high as you hop for a strenuous planche position
- The Stradle Frog Walk which is essentially the same exercise with straight legs in a straddle position
